Burglary Suspects Shot After Trying To Steal EDDIE VAN HALEN, GENE SIMMONS, AEROSMITH Guitars
November 24, 2005According to The Sacramento Bee, two burglary suspects who allegedly tried to steal three one-of-a-kind guitars signed by rock stars Eddie Van Halen, Gene Simmons and the members of AEROSMITH were arrested after a high-speed chase early Tuesday (Nov. 22).
Dante Ray Ciardella, 40, and Dawn McAlister, 37, were reportedly in the parking lot of Skip's Music, 9960 Elk Grove Florin Road in Elk Grove, California when officers arrived to investigate a tripped alarm.
Ciardella allegedly refused an officer's request to get out of the vehicle. The deputy sent a police dog into the car as it sped away. In the process, the deputy was dragged by the car.
Department spokesman Sgt. R.L. Davis said the deputy fired once at Ciardella, who was driving the vehicle. That single shot struck both suspects in the extremities, he said.
Then the dog was thrown from the car.
Both were arrested after a car chase that ended when their vehicle crashed on the eastbound onramp off Highway 50 at Bradshaw Road.
Ciardella was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assaulting an officer and a police dog and evading arrest. McAlister was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Owner Skip Maggiora said all three guitars have been recovered.
